What is “assemblage theory?”

ICBMS 4 asks contributors to critically grapple with how the people and communities of Myanmar are imagining, constructing and challenging different social, economic and political arrangements. We seek to use the conference space to help understand new possibilities and emergent realities across contested spaces. Assemblage theory is one tool which can help scholars with this task. We asked one of our RCSD affiliated scholars to make a short video lecture (in both English and Burmese) to give a basic introduction to assemblage theory and explore its relevance to the context of Myanmar. As he suggests, it can help us move beyond the limitations of attempts to “put Myanmar back together.”
