Panel: COVID-19, Myanmar Migration, Risks & Resilience

Difficulties and problems of social inequality, migration, and degradation of resources are seen throughout Myanmar. Cross-border migration, Foreign Direct Investment in Special Economic Zones, and now the Covid-19 pandemic are issues of concern for all partners—from state officers, academia, and the private sector—to assure sustainable and inclusive development in Myanmar.

This panel will examine Myanmar migration in the context of COVID-19 and how it has affected migrant workers. Impacts on migrant workers are complex and tied to other conditions related to migrant worker vulnerability: health access, economic inequality, migration status, working and employment conditions, living conditions, lack of rights accessibility, and language barriers.
